On 16 Jan. 1802, Smith wrote Captain Alexander Murray of the frigate Constellation, enclosing warrants for William Johnson, gunner; John Hall, boatswain; and William Godby, carpenter (FC in Lb in DNA: RG 45, LSO; , 2:27).
