To John Jay from Edmund Randolph, 19 April 1794
From Edmund Randolph
Philadelphia April 19. 1794
Sir
I do myself the honor of informing you, that I have this moment received an official notification, that the senate have advised and consented to your appointment as Envoy Extraordinary of the United States, to his Britannic Majesty. A commission is passing thro’ the ordinary course; and will be forwarded to you, immediately on its completion.1 I write at present, merely to give you the earliest intelligence of an event, which will probably allow but a little time for preparation, and to assure you, sir, of the great respect, with which I have the honor to be yr. mo[st]. ob[ediant]. servt.
Edm: Randolph
The hon’ble John Jay
ALS, NNC (EJ: 07068).
