From———6

AL (fragment): Historical Society of Pennsylvania

[1759–1775]7

[First part missing] Franklyn for the Favor of his Invitation, sho’d have answer’d his Card sooner but has been kept at Westminster the whole Day, begs Leave now to say, that He will wait on the Doctor, and in the mean Time begs his Acceptance of his most respectful Compliments.

Boswell Court Monday 8 o Clock

[Note numbering follows the Franklin Papers source.]

6The writer has not been identified, though the handwriting bears a slight resemblance to that of Richard Jackson. The mention of Westminster (probably Westminster Hall, not the Houses of Parliament) and the address “Boswell Court” (Carey Street, Lincoln’s Inn Fields) suggest that the writer was a lawyer, but so far as can be determined Jackson lived throughout these years in King’s Bench Walk, Inner Temple.

7The reference to BF as “Doctor” places this note after Feb. 12, 1759. It might have been written at any later date during either of BF’s two missions to England.
