Passy, April 28. 1778

Sir

Upon Enquiry I am informed that the Accounts of Public Money for the Year you mentioned are not yet published in England, but will be soon, when I am promised a Copy that shall be at your Service.8

I return you the Newspaper with many Thanks. I am, Sir, with much Esteem, Your most obedient humble Servant

B Franklin

I send you another Resolution of Congress which may contribute to a longer Detention of Burgoyne’s Army.9
M. Genet

8Genet presumably wanted the material for the Affaires de l’Angleterre et de l’Amérique. It appeared in the Annual Register for 1777 (pp. 265–74), of which the Public Advertiser announced on May 2 the forthcoming publication.

9Genet’s reply below, May 9, identifies the resolution as that of Dec. 19, 1777, when Congress required the British to provide or pay for provisions for the captured army: JCC, IX, 1036–7.
