As there is a Report, that some Indians have been seen on the road between this and Enock’s—A party of Volunteers, about twenty-five, to parade immediately, to go and scour the woods between this and that place; and to return to-morrow.
A Court Martial to sit immediately, for Trial of Sergeant Ferguson, and Thomas Lovell, Drummer.1
After Orders.
The commanding Officers of the Militia [(]except Prince-William) to give in a Return immediately of the number of Carpenters they have under their command.
The Adjutant is to wait upon the Officers with this Order.2

1. Thomas Ferguson was a sergeant in Capt. David Bell’s company in the Virginia Regiment. He enlisted on 2 Sept. 1755. In the company size roll of 13 July 1756, Ferguson was said to be 31 years old, a soldier by profession and a Scot by birth, and from Williamsburg. The Thomas Lovell, drummer, mentioned here may well be Thomas Lovett, a drummer who served with the Virginia forces from 1754 until the reduction of the Virginia Regiment in 1762. In 1779 he was living in Kentucky County.
2. GW made Lt. James Livingston of the Maryland forces adjutant to the Virginia Regiment at Fort Cumberland on 17 Sept. 1755. During part of May Livingston was away from Fort Cumberland recruiting for the Virginia Regiment.
