Orders

Parole: Bedford.

Winchester, Sunday 31st October, 1756.

Officers commanding Companies to set about making out their pay-rolls, in order to have them ready; as Captain Mercer is expected in town this night. So soon as the waggons arrive in town they are to be employed on the Fort; as they can not possibly go to-morrow.1

LB, DLC:GW.

1Aide-de-camp George Mercer went to Williamsburg on 10 October both to appear at the general court to testify in the trial of James Knap for counterfeiting and to get money for the Virginia Regiment. The wagons were being assembled to go to Fort Cumberland for the stores that were to be moved down to Fort Loudoun. See GW to Adam Stephen, 23 Oct. 1756.
