AD, General Ledger A description begins General Ledger A, 1750–1772. Library of Congress, George Washington Papers, Series 5, Financial Papers. description ends , folio 171.

Sneed’s ordinary was in Caroline County.

Port Royal is a small town on the Rappahannock River downstream from Fredericksburg.

GW crossed the Potomac into Maryland at Hooe’s ferry and then back across the river, probably at John Posey’s ferry, to Mount Vernon.

Breechy, a male dower slave, was a servant in the house at Mount Vernon. In 1764 Breechy ran away and was returned to GW by Christmas (Criemus) Meekins (Meakens) of New Kent County on 19 Dec. 1764 (receipt of GW to Meekins, ViHi: Custis Papers).

Charles Turner operated an ordinary in Alexandria and mended a number of items for GW.
