1. Eustis was probably referring to the Federalist representative from Connecticut Benjamin Tallmadge (1754–1835), who had risen to the rank of colonel during the Revolutionary War. He served in the House of Representatives from 1801 to 1817.
2. Eustis may have been in error here. The father of Representative Robert Le Roy Livingston was Walter Livingston.
3. Left blank in the RC. Eustis was undoubtedly referring to Amasa Stetson of Massachusetts, whom JM nominated to the post of deputy commissary on 9 June 1812 (, 2:276).
4. Monday was 30 Mar. 1812. JM, however, was not to forward some of the nominations Eustis suggested here until Wednesday, 1 Apr. 1812 (see Eustis to JM, 1 Apr. 1812 [second letter]).
