Sir

Colonel Shrieve informs me that several persons who had been made prisoners by the Indians, have lately returned from Captivity—and that they are known to you1—in this case, I request that you will inform me of their names characters and places of abode by the first opportunity.2

be pleased likewise to let me know, whether you have thought of the boots mentioned in a late letter.3 I am &.

Df, in John Laurens’s writing, DLC:GW; Varick transcript, DLC:GW.

1No letter from Col. Israel Shreve to GW on the subject of prisoners recently released by the Indians has been found.

3See Maxwell to GW, 8 March and 6 April. Maxwell’s earlier mention of boots must have been in a letter not found.
