Kershaw & Lewis was a mercantile partnership formed by the factors Charles Kershaw (1760–1835) and John Lewis (ca. 1777–1839) by 1813 in Charleston, South Carolina. Both men had emigrated from England, with Kershaw arriving in the city by 1788 and Lewis by 1801. The firm became Kershaw, Lewis, & Robertson by 1833, and Lewis continued to work as a factor in various partnerships after Kershaw’s death (James H.
