Dear sir

Yours by your boy is duly to hand, inclosing us a draft on Messrs Gibson & Jefferson for One hundred and Ten dollars, for which we will deliver you; or to your Order Twenty Bushels Salt on application at any time betwen this and the Twentyfifth day of Decemb next—we will be thankful in furnishing any kind of goods in our line at any time you may want, we have an extensive assortment of Negroe Cloathing Particular Negroe or say Napt Cotton & Blankets &c I am

Abram R. North (ca. 1792–1837) operated a bookstore in Lynchburg for at least a decade prior to his death. He conducted book auctions in a number of southern states, joined a committee soliciting contributions to pay off TJ’s debts in 1826, supported Andrew Jackson politically in 1828, and served as a militia colonel during the 1830s. North died during a visit to Vicksburg, Mississippi, leaving an estate valued at just over $2,000 (Vi: Abram R. North Business Records, 1827–36; William Asbury Christian, Lynchburg and Its People [1900; repr. 1967], 83–4; Margaret Anthony Cabell, Sketches and Recollections of Lynchburg by the Oldest Inhabitant (Mrs. Cabell) 1858 [1858; repr. with additional material by Louise A.
