1. John Cox (1775–1849) was a Georgetown, D.C., merchant. He served in the War of 1812, participated in the Battle of Bladensburg, and was mayor of Georgetown, 1823–1845 (Daily National Intelligencer, 15 Dec. 1849; Grace Dunlop Ecker, A Portrait of Old George Town, 2nd ed. (Richmond, 1951), 125).
