Receipt to Jonathan Shoemaker

I acknolege that I have recieved from Jonathan Shoemaker on account the following sums at their respective dates to wit.

MS (PU, 1949); entirely in TJ’s hand; addressed: “Mr Jonathan Shoemaker Shadwell Mills.” Not recorded in SJL.

On 15 Dec. 1809 TJ gave James salmon (Sammons) an order on Shoemaker for $25 “on account of mason work done here.” TJ employed Sammons between 1809 and 1813 to repair, among other things, the Milton tobacco warehouse and the toll mill at Shadwell (MB description begins James A. Bear Jr. and Lucia C. Stanton, eds., Jefferson’s Memorandum Books: Accounts, with Legal Records and Miscellany, 1767–1826, 1997, The Papers of Thomas Jefferson, Second Series description ends , esp. 2:1250, 1287). A letter he wrote TJ on 3 Dec. 1809, not found, is recorded in SJL as received the following day.
