The payment to William Salmon (salmons) for state taxes included $51.74 assessed on TJ’s personal property in Bedford County, following TJ’s Statement of Bedford and Campbell County Property Subject to State Tax, 11 Feb. 1815, but counting only five slaves between the ages of nine and twelve; and $80.03 assessed on TJ’s Bedford County landholdings, totaling 3,790 acres (Vi: RG 48, Personal Property Tax Returns and Land Tax Returns, both Bedford Co.). That to morgan & mcdaniel, assignees (assees) of John May, covered the purchase of a mare. TJ recorded giving Michael Atkinson (adkinson) an order on Robertson on this date as payment for sawing that Atkinson had finished the same day (MB description begins James A. Bear Jr. and Lucia C. Stanton, eds., Jefferson’s Memorandum Books: Accounts, with Legal Records and Miscellany, 1767–1826, 1997, The Papers of Thomas Jefferson, Second Series description ends , 2:1314).

1TJ wrote “386” in the left margin of this line to correct an addition error.
