Richmond 27th Jany 1813

Sir

your letter of the 21st we duly received & have as directed therein deposited $100 in the Bank of Virginia, to the credit of mr. James Hamilton of Williamboro’ n.C.—we likewise inclose you herein, a further sum of $100.— mr Gibson is at present out of town, he will return in a few days

RC (ViU: TJP-ER); in Ligon’s hand; between dateline and salutation: “Thomas Jefferson Esqr”; endorsed by TJ as a letter from Gibson & Jefferson received 29 Jan. 1813 and so recorded in SJL.

On 29 Jan. 1813 TJ recorded the receipt of the $100 from Gibson & Jefferson and further noted that “they have paid into the bank of Richmd. the 50.D. recd. ante Aug. 18. from Watson of Louisa & the 50.D. recd. from Geo. Divers ante Oct. 24. to the credit of James Hamilton, being their subscriptions to Wm. Mclure assigned to Hamilton” (MB description begins James A. Bear Jr. and Lucia C.
