From John Gavino, 12 July 1805 (Abstract)

§ From John Gavino. 12 July 1805. “I beg leave to congratulate you on the restoration of an honorable peace with Tripoli—adding thereto the agreeable account of capt. Bainbridge, with the other late captives, having got to Sicily.”

Printed extract (National Intelligencer, 13 Sept. 1805). Printed with the extract are a copy of John Rodgers’s 8 June 1805 circular letter (printed in Knox, Naval Documents, Barbary Wars, description begins Dudley W. Knox, ed., Naval Documents Related to the United States Wars with the Barbary Powers (6 vols.; Washington, 1939–44). description ends 6:99), which is described as having been transmitted to JM, announcing the peace and the arrival of the Philadelphia crew, and an 8 June 1805 letter from William Bainbridge saying he had requested a court of inquiry into his conduct, which he expected would be held in about a week.
