PrC (MHi); faint and torn, with bracketed dates and names in postscript supplied from TJ’s financial records (MB, description begins James A. Bear, Jr., and Lucia C. Stanton, eds., Jefferson’s Memorandum Books: Accounts, with Legal Records and Miscellany, 1767–1826, Princeton, 1997, The Papers of Thomas Jefferson, Second Series description ends 2:994); endorsed by TJ in ink on verso.

TJ paid Richardson for his work at Monticello and for the hire of three slaves. He still owed him £24.3. A statement of TJ’s account with William Davenport is printed at 10 Dec. 1798. TJ’s payment to Marks included the balance of Thomas Mann Randolph’s debt for the purchase of Critta. TJ probably paid Clarkson, a merchant at Milton, for his share in the clearing of the Rivanna River from Milton to Charlottesville (MB, description begins James A. Bear, Jr., and Lucia C. Stanton, eds., Jefferson’s Memorandum Books: Accounts, with Legal Records and Miscellany, 1767–1826, Princeton, 1997, The Papers of Thomas Jefferson, Second Series description ends 2:994).
