To John Jay from Noah Worcester, 6 February 1818

From Noah Worcester

Brighton Feb. 6. 1818

Dear Sir,

I have received both your letters relating to mine of Jan 2nd.1 But prior to the arrival of either I was under a necessity of printing yours of Nov. 12,2 or of excluding it from No XI. The paragraph I had mentioned is printed; but on reading your letter again after I had written, I thought it would not be proper for me to publish Mr Lords opinion of the Editor of the Friend of Peace. I therefore took the liberty of suppressing that part of the Letter which related to Mr Lords writing to you. The note at the close of No XI, which I now send, was written on receiving yours of Jan. 15, after the other had been struck off for the whole edition. I had not opportunity to correct the proof which contained your letter, and I regret a mistake in printing which occasioned the Erratum.3

I hope, Sir, that nothing which I have done or written respecting your letter, will occasion you any unpleasant sensations; and you may rest assured that no difference of opinion, which has appeared between us, has occasioned any diminution of the great respect which has long been entertained for your character by Your cordial friend,

Noah Worcester
