New-York, 4th November 1803

Sir,

I am desired to inform you, That Jacob Morton’s1 Note for One thousand Dollars endorsed by you was protested yesterday Evening, for non-payment, and that the Holder looks to you for payment of it.

1. Morton, who was trained as a lawyer, held several appointive offices in New York City and was a member of the New York Assembly in 1796 and 1797. He was a brother of Washington Morton, the husband of Elizabeth Hamilton’s sister, Cornelia.
