ALS, Hamilton Papers, Library of Congress.

1For background to this letter, see Rivardi to H, July 25, 1799.

2Thompson and H did not meet, but in a letter dated September 23, 1799, which is listed in the appendix to this volume, Thompson wrote from Albany to H stating that he was about to return to Niagara. In this letter he enclosed a document entitled “Memorandums delivered to me by Major Rivardi” (ADS, Hamilton Papers, Library of Congress). This document consists of a list of Rivardi’s requests for supplies and equipment for Fort Niagara.
