[Philadelphia, March 19, 1791]

Dear Sir

Mr. Jefferson has sent for the Bills of 99000 Guilders, which on application to Mr. Meredith,2 are said to have been countermanded. I had transmitted to Mr. Jeffn. the three letters of advice3 to be sealed by a wafer to the Bills. Will you be good enough to give me your instructions as Mr. Jefferson’s opty will be tomorrow.4

3. Letters not found. A letter of advice is a note advising a commercial or financial correspondent that a certain arrangement, of which the correspondent is a part, has been made.

4. At the bottom of this letter H wrote: “Let the bills be sent to Mr. Jefferson. Yrs. A Hamilton.”
