9Henry Bromfield, Jr. (1751–1837) was the son of the Boston merchant Henry Bromfield: XXII, 161 n; Daniel D. Slade, “The Bromfield Family,” New-England Hist. and Geneal. Register, XXVI (1872), 141. Apparently he did not make immediate use of this recommendation; Samuel Cooper wrote a more detailed one for him on July 17, 1780 (APS), and we have no evidence that he was in France until that year.
