Cadiz 3d. march 1780.

Dear Sir,

On this Day I gave the House of Messrs. Jaques, Louis And Laurt. Le Couteullx of this Place,8 a Set of Bills on you for two Thousand five hundred and Sixty four Livres Eighteen Sols and ten Donrs. [deniers] payable ninety Days after the Date.9

I am Dear Sir with great Regard & Esteem your most Obedient Servant

8For this firm’s prior services to Americans see XXVI, 467n. On March 20 Jay informed BF he had drawn bills of 3,596 l.t., 13 s. on him with the same firm and Jay expressed his obligations to them: Library of Congress.

9The third time the minister-designate to the court of Spain had drawn on BF for funds since leaving America: XXXI, 286–7, 409–10. Since Jan. 22 the Jay party had been in Cadiz, where Sarah Jay found herself “very agreeably accommodated”: XXXI, 409; Morris, Jay: Revolutionary, p. 692. On March 8, finally assured that he would be welcome at the Spanish court, Jay began preparations for their trip to Madrid: ibid., pp. 742–4.
