Dear Sir

I had promised Samuel Garland to give him on my arrival here an order for 800.D. but, anxious to leave in your hands 500.D. for the curtail expected, I have this day drawn on you in his favor for 600.D. only, promising him the othe[r] 200 before I leave this place. by that time I hope Jefferson will have sent you on my account one or two boatloads2 of flour, which I have charged him to do as soon as the river admits. ever and affectionately yours

A missing letter of this date from TJ to Thomas jefferson Randolph is recorded in SJL and is described in TJ’s financial records as enclosing “to Th:J.R. my notes of 3000. & 2250. bk. US. and 2500. Farm.’s bk. to be indorsed by him and forwarded to B. Peyton for renewal” (MB description begins James A. Bear Jr. and Lucia C. Stanton, eds., Jefferson’s Memorandum Books: Accounts, with Legal Records and Miscellany, 1767–1826, 1997, 2 vols., The Papers of Thomas Jefferson, Second Series description ends , 2:1371).
