By the mail of this day I rec d a check from the Cashier of the Bank of Virginia for six hundred & fifty eight Dollars & 32/100 being a remittance by request of the Proctor of the University of Virginia. & in full of the balance due me for duties & freight of marble. I received your letter of the 4 th instant, previous to which D r Blatterman & family & M r Deverett his assistant arrived here, and were permitted to make entry of their books, philosophical apparatus &c, free of duty. Jonathan Thompson Collector MHi .

Your letter of the 8 th instant I have rec’d & have also rec’d this morning a letter from M r Bernard Peyton, dated the 14 th instant at Richmond Virg a enclosing a draft for thirty four dollars & 87/100 which have placed to your credit— MHi .
