From John Jay to Selah S. Woodhull, 23 April 1822

To Selah S. Woodhull

Bedford—23d. April 1822

Revd. Sir

I have had the pleasure of recieving your obliging Letter of the 2d. Inst—1 informing me that the sixth annual meeting of the American Bible Society will be held on the ninth Day of May next, and expressing the kind wishes of the managers that I may be present at it. To find myself able at that Time to attend the Society, and enjoy the Company of the managers, and other Friends in the City, would gratify me not a little— but the State of my Health continues to be such, as to afford me no Prospect of having that Satisfaction— My Son William intends to go to New York in season to attend the Meeting, and expect to send to you an Address adopted to that interesting Occasion, by him.—2

The Prosperity with which a kind Providence continues to bless the Society, will I hope, not only make suitable Impressions on its Members and Friends, but also on those who are not its Friends—

Be pleased to assure the Managers of my Respect and Regard I am, Revd. Sir Your obt. Servt

John Jay
