Treasury Departmt Feby 24. 1795.

The Secretary of the Treasury has the honor to transmit to the President of the United States a draft of a nomination to certain vacant offices.1

In case the supplementary collection law now on its passage shall be approved, certain offices will require to be filled before the first of May; for most of which proper characters have been brought in view.2 The Secretary of State concurs with me in opinion, that appointments are not necessary during the session of the Senate. All which is humbly submitted by

1. The draft has not been identified.

2. “An Act supplementary to the act, intituled ‘An act to provide more effectually for the collection of the Duties on goods, wares and merchandise imported into the United States, and on the tonnage of ships or vessels’” was approved on 26 Feb. (1 Stat. description begins Richard Peters, ed. The Public Statutes at Large of the United States of America, from the Organization of the Government in 1789, to March 3, 1845 . . .. 8 vols. Boston, 1845-67. description ends 420–23). Section 4 of that act created new districts and ports of entry in New York, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. GW’s nominations of collectors and surveyors for those districts were made in his message to the Senate of 12 June.
