I am informed that Capt. Twining has a Memorial before Congress. Permit me to inform you that I have reason to beleive that the Setting up a line of Stages from Suffolk to Savannah for the purpose of transporting the Public Mail was the principal Cause of his ruin & I know that his family is now in Great distress.1 Any Service that you can render him will lay an Obligation on Dr Sir Yr. 1. Nathaniel Twining’s memorial was presented to the House on 6 May. A committee reported in favor of the petition on 28 May, and an act passed on 1 July awarding Twining the sum of $567.41, the amount of the fine he had incurred for failing to fulfill the terms of a mail contract (DHFC description begins Linda Grant De Pauw et al., eds., Documentary History of the First Federal Congress of the United States of America (3 vols. to date; Baltimore, 1972—). description ends , III, 399, 431–32, 484; U.S. Statutes at Large description begins The Public Statutes at Large of the United States of America … (17 vols.; Boston, 1848–73). description ends , VI, 3).
