G. Taylor Jr presents his respectful Compliments to Mr Dandridge—and informs him that Mr Jefferson desired the Commissions to be filled up agreeably to the Presidents desire on the day the present ones should determine, which will be on the 26 of the present month. This has accordingly been done having all been commissioned on that day in 1789.1
Will Mr Dandridge be so obliging as to send 100 Blank Sea letters? We want that number to make up the 500 per month with which we furnish the Treasury.2

1. This paragraph concerns new commissions for federal marshals whom the Senate had confirmed on 26 Sept. 1789 for four-year terms (see GW to U.S. Senate, 24 Sept. 1789; , 236). Secretary of State Thomas Jefferson had written a circular letter to several of those marshals on 4 Sept. 1793 indicating GW’s desire that they continue in office (DNA: RG 59, Domestic Letters).
2. GW signed and sent 102 sea letters to Jefferson on this date and an additional 715 sea letters by 9 Sept. (, 238–39).
