Mount Vernon 9th Oct. 1795

Dear Sir

Give the enclosed letters for Govr Jay and Doctr Priestly safe conveyances, but not by Post, for this would be expensive for Pamphlets wch I believe they are, from the Board of Agriculture of which Sir John Sinclair is President they came from him with others to me.1

I expect to leave this for Phila. on Monday,2 if all are well. make enquiry for good footmen. Yours affectionately

1GW enclosed the letter from John Sinclair to John Jay of 18 July (NNC: Jay Papers) that was sent with Sinclair’s letters to GW of that date. The letter to Jay enclosed a copy of Sinclair’s Plan of an Agreement among the Powers in Europe, and the United States of America, for the Purpose of rewarding Discoveries of general Benefit to Society (London, 1795) and also Outlines of the Fifteenth Chapter of the Proposed General Report from the Board of Agriculture. On the Subject of Manures. Drawn up for the Consideration of the Board of Agriculture and Internal Improvement (London, 1795). The letter to Joseph Priestly has not been identified.
