From George Washington to the United States Senate and House of Representatives, 7 November 1792

To the United States Senate and House of Representatives

United States [Philadelphia] November 7th 1792.

Gentlemen of the Senate, and of the House of Representatives,

I lay before you copies of certain papers relative to the Spanish interference,1 in the execution of the Treaty entered into, in the year one thousand seven hundred and ninety, between the United States and the Creek nation of Indians2 together with a letter from the Secretary of State to the President of the United States, on the same subject.3

The presented papers included a letter to Thomas Jefferson of 29 Oct. 1792 from Spanish diplomats José Ignacio de Viar and José de Jaudenes and an extract of Louisiana governor Carondelet’s letter to Viar and Jaudenes of 24 Sept. (see Jefferson to GW, 29 Oct. [second letter], n.1). Also included was Jefferson’s reply to Viar and Jaudenes of 1 Nov. (see GW to Jefferson, 1 Nov., n.1).
