Wednesday 12 o’clock. [22 Jan. 1794]
E. Randolph has the honor of inclosing to the President a copy of the abstract from Mr Short’s letter.1
Mr Strong,2 of the Senate, called upon E.R. about half an hour ago, and desired me to mention in his name to the President, that Mr Bradford would be extremely acceptable to many persons, as the Atty General.3
There is a load of English papers, down to the middle of October, just come to hand; but without a letter. If the President wishes to see them, they shall be sent to him.

1. It is not clear which letter Randolph abstracted. For letter-book copies of official dispatches received from William Short, see RG 59, Despatches from U.S. Ministers to Spain.
2. “Short” has been erroneously substituted for “Strong” in the letter books. Caleb Strong (1745–1819) graduated from Harvard in 1764, studied law, and then began his legal practice in Northampton, Mass., in 1772. He served several terms in the state legislature, 1776–78 and 1780–88. Elected to the U.S. Senate in 1789 for an initial four-year term, he was re-elected for a full six years in 1793, but he resigned on 1 June 1796. He was governor of Massachusetts, 1800–1807 and 1812–16.
