From Edmund Randolph

Department of State

Sir,

I do myself the honor of inclosing to you a copy of a letter from the Minister of the French Republic,1 dated yesterday. I will thank you to inform me at the earliest moment of your convenience, whether the additional thirty thousand Dollars cannot be obtained. If practicable, this sum will, I perceive, be a very cordial relief.

I have the honor to be, Sir,   with great respect and esteem, &c:

Edm: Randolph

LC, RG 59, Domestic Letters of the Department of State, Vol. 8, December 6, 1794–October 12, 1795, National Archives.

1Jean Antoine Joseph Fauchet had recently asked for an advance of forty thousand dollars on the installments which the United States owed to France for the repayment of two loans made by France to the United States in 1782. See Randolph to H, January 3, 1795.
