George Town [D.C.] December 24t 1794

My dear Sir,

I have this moment been honored with your respected favor of the 21st instant—and shall, as soon as possible, obtain information on the several points therein mentioned, which shall be immediately communicated to you.

The law for extending the time for opening the navigation of the Potomac has been passed in this State as well as Virginia.1

I take the liberty to enclose a packet for Mr Dandridge.2 With sentiments of the purest respect & most lively attachment—I have the honor to be My dear Sir, Your grateful & affectionate servant

1. Lear was referring to “An Act relating to the Patowmack Company, and the navigation of the Patowmack River” (Md. Laws 1794 description begins Laws of Maryland, Made and Passed at a Session of Assembly, Begun and held at the City of Annapolis on Monday the third of November, in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety-four. Annapolis [1795]. description ends , chap. xxix). The law bears a date of 26 Dec. because the engrossed bill was approved by the Senate on that date. Previously the House had passed the bill on 17 Dec. and the Senate passed it on 18 Dec. (Votes and Proceedings of the House of Delegates of the State of Maryland. November Session, 1794. Being the First Session of this Assembly [n.p., n.d.], 77, 80, 106, 108).

2. The contents of the packet have not been identified.
