Treasury Department, March 23, 1791. “The President having been pleased to appoint you one of the Commissioners2 to receive subscriptions to the Bank of the United States, you will find in this in-closure his commission.…”

1Bordley, a lawyer and landholder on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, moved to Philadelphia in 1791.
