From Alexander Hamilton to Benjamin Lincoln, 3 September 1792

To Benjamin Lincoln

Treasury Department, September 3, 1792. Informs Lincoln that “a Warrant has this day issued on the Treasurer in your favor, as Agent to John Lowell, Attorney for Jonathan Jackson, late Marshall of the District of Massachusetts, for the sum of Nine hundred & Sixty four dollars and thirty Cents.”1 Requests a receipt.

1Warrant No. 2011 was issued to Jackson for court expenses amounting to $964.30 for the period from December 1, 1789, to July 18, 1791 (D, RG 217, Miscellaneous Treasury Accounts, 1790–1894, Account No. 1939, National Archives). Jackson ceased to be marshal when he was appointed inspector of Survey No. 2 in Massachusetts on July 18, 1792. The Senate approved the appointment on March 7, 1792.
