We are under some doubt whether we did not agree at the last meeting to take the Fashion of the Hunting Shirt Cap & Gaiters from you, and shall be glad to be informed by the return of Mr Johnson whether you Intend to send yours up that we may get the fashion, or that you will give your direction about the same.1 We are Sir very respectfully Your Most Obedt ⟨St⟩

1. William Johnson, muster master of the company, dined at Mount Vernon on this day (, 3:323). The last meeting of the company was in Alexandria on 15 April (ibid., 321). In DLC:GW is an undated document entitled: “A Size Roll of the Independant Company of Alexandria” containing fifty-six names, largely of prominent Alexandria and Fairfax County citizens. Among those named are Peter Wagener, Jr., Charles Broadwater, Lund Washington, Daniel McCarty, Robert Alexander, and Martin Cockburn.
