Captain Wormeley presents his respectful Compliments to Mr. Madison, will do himself the honour to wait on him at Dinner on Saturday next.1

1Son of Virginia Loyalist James Wormeley and nephew of Edmund Randolph, Ralph Randolph Wormeley (1785–1852) entered the Royal Navy in 1799, where he served throughout the Napoleonic Wars. He returned to the United States between 1816 and 1818 in an unsuccessful attempt to resolve disputes relating to the family estate in Virginia. Once again in England, he attained the rank of rear admiral, then resettled in the United States in 1848 (Katharine Prescott Wormeley et al., Recollections of Ralph Randolph Wormeley [New York, 1879], 13, 15, 23, 44, 47, 49, 87, 103–4).
