My Son entrusted to me, the Care of procuring & forwarding to You, four Volumes of Syms’s Embassy to Pegue including the Drawings.1 I hope you will receive them safe by the Mail.
After your Perusal, the Secretary of State, will be so good, as to take Charge of, & return these Volumes to me, as they are obtained from a private Library.
My Son sailed for Calcutta the 24h Instant.2 With Sentiments of profound Respect I have the honour to be Your Excellency’s Most Obt Hble Servt.

1. Michael Symes, An Account of an Embassy to the Kingdom of Ava, Sent by the Governor-General of India in the Year 1795 (2d ed.; 4 vols.; London, 1800). Ava and Pegu were Burmese city-states.
2. JM gave John B. Davy a recess appointment as consul at Rangoon. The Senate confirmed the appointment on 12 Jan. 1811 (, 2:160, 162).
3. William Davy was a merchant with premises at 356 High Street. In 1816 JM appointed him consul at Hull, England (Robinson, Philadelphia Directory [1811 ed.], p. 78; , 3:61, 68).
