The bearer the Hon.ble Wm Smith has been elected a Senator in Congress from this State vice Jno Taylor Esq resigned.1 Mr Smith has been an uniform politician & carries with him the best dispositions towardes the administration of the General Government. Most respectfully your’s

1. William Smith was a judge of the South Carolina circuit court 1808–16, when he was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1816. There he served two terms 1816–23 and 1826–31 before moving to Alabama, where he died.
