§ From John Armstrong. 11 April 1814, War Department. “I have the honor respectfully to propose for your approbation the following appointments in the Army of the United States.”

RC and enclosure (DNA: RG 46, Executive Proceedings, Nominations, 13B-A2); letterbook copy and letterbook copy of enclosure (DNA: RG 107, LSP). RC 1 p.; in a clerk’s hand, signed by Armstrong. The appended list (4 pp.) included seventy-three nominations for appointments in the infantry, artillery, Third Regiment of Riflemen, commissariat, and medical department, beginning with Eleazer Wheelock Ripley’s promotion from colonel to brigadier general. JM submitted the nominations to the Senate on 12 Apr. 1814 (DNA: RG 46, Executive Proceedings, Nominations, 13B-A2; printed in Senate Exec. Proceedings, description begins Journal of the Executive Proceedings of the Senate of the United States of America (3 vols.; Washington, 1828). description ends 2:524–26).
