§ From Louis-André Pichon

21 May 1804, Baltimore. Encloses the commissions [not found] of Gen. Antoine Gabriel Venance Rey1 and [Louis] Arcambal as French commercial agents in New York and Baltimore, respectively. Requests exequaturs for them both from the president.

1Antoine Gabriel Venance Rey (1768–1836) was a French general who served in the revolutionary army before falling into political disgrace. Appointed French commercial agent in New York in 1804, he returned to France by 1808 and rejoined the army, where he served in various campaigns including that in Spain (Biographie universelle [1843–65 ed.], 35:503).
