ALB, DLC:GW. These goods were ordered by GW on 18 July and the invoice was enclosed in his 20 July letter to Cary. Invoices dated 2 Dec. were also sent by the Trimley for John Parke Custis and Martha Parke Custis. James Page arrived in the Potomac River in late February 1772.

1Adam Dennis, glasscutter, had his business at 13 Clement’s Lane, Lombard Street.

2Farrers & Parrett is undoubtedly the firm of Farrar & Garrett, chinamen, 131 Fenchurch Street.

3Lunar caustic is nitrate of silver, used to remove warts and for various other purposes.

4Flake manna was used as a laxative.

5Oil of amber, or oleum succini, was used externally as a liniment for paralized limbs and rheumatic pains and internally as a diuretic.

6Tyzack Hodges & Co., bottle merchants, were located at Brook’s Wharf 12, Queenhith.

7Darby & Morgan, warehousemen, did business at 5 Lothbury.

8Hugh Innes was a wine merchant at 10 Fenchurch Street.

9Joseph Middleditch was a grocer at 4 Budge Row.

10Susanna & Jonathan Coleman were breeches makers at the Buck & Breeches, 17 on the Pavement, Moorfields.

11Philip, John & Charles Palmer, mercers, had their business at 8 Ludgate Hill.

12Francis Newbery was a bookseller at 20 Ludgate Street.

13Gibson & Winter, lacemen, were at 5 Lawrence Lane, Cheapside.

14Mrs. S. Thorpe was a London milliner.

15Viet Mitchel, jeweler and goldsmith, had his shop at 6 Cornhill.

16Coraline was a heavy Italian needlepoint lace.

17Romal was a plain silk taffeta fabric made in India.

18Benjamin Gurden & Son, jewelers, were at 114 Wood Street.
