Dear Sir
I have only time now to own the receipt of Yours by Simpson,2 for which I am oblidged, Captain Spain going off a day or two sooner than I expected, And to inclose You the second Copy of a Bill of Exchange for two hundred Pounds Sterling, the first of which was sent You by the William and Mary, Capt: Nicholson.3 I am glad the Affair of the Bill thought to be lost, is cleared up,4 shall write you fully by Hamet, who sails next Week. Remember me kindly to Your Son. Give You Joy of Niagara, Ticonderoga, and Crown Point, being Under English Colours and hope to do the same by Hamet with respect to Quebec, and in the mean time Am Dear Sir Yours very Affectionately

1. The day of the month is omitted, but the reference to the departure of Captain Spain puts it on or about August 14, since the Chippenham, Capt. Edward Spain, was reported to have cleared Philadelphia in Pa. Gaz. Aug. 16, 1759.
2. Possibly BF’s letter of April 8 (above, pp. 317–22); more probably one of later date, not found. The snow James, Capt. George Simpson, was reported as having arrived in Philadelphia in Pa. Gaz., July 19, 1759, but its date of departure from England has not been determined.
