My Dear Eliza

Your Sister Peggy3 has gradually grown worse & is now in a situation that her dissolution in the opinion of the Doctor is not likely to be long delayed. The Lt Governor4 sends the bearer to bring home his Child.5 I have not time to add more.

3Margarita Schuyler Van Rensselaer, one of Elizabeth Hamilton’s younger sisters and the wife of Stephen Van Rensselaer.

4Stephen Van Rensselaer was the eighth patroon of Rensselaerwyck and lieutenant governor of New York from 1795 to 1801.

5Stephen Van Rensselaer, the only surviving child of Margarita and Stephen Van Rensselaer, was eleven years old.
