LS, in Richard Kidder Meade’s writing, PWacD: Sol Feinstone Collection, on deposit at PPAmP; Df, DLC:GW; Varick transcript, DLC:GW.

1GW learned on the evening of 17 Nov. that Congress had designated the North Carolina brigade for service in the southern department (see Samuel Huntington to GW, 11 Nov., and n.3 to that document, and GW to Huntington, 20 Nov.).

2GW is referring to Capt. John Kingsbury’s independent artillery company.

3See GW to Thomas Clark, 19 Nov., and n.2 to that document.
