For the week ending 1 Jan. 1803, the secretary drew two warrants totaling $1,700, leaving a balance on hand of $1,741.78. For the week ending 8 Jan. 1803, the secretary drew one warrant for $79.68, leaving a balance on hand of $1,662.10. For the week ending 15 Jan. 1803, the secretary received a deposit of $90,000 and drew 23 warrants totaling $56,575.42, leaving a balance on hand of $35,086.68. For the week ending 22 Jan. 1803, the secretary drew eight warrants totaling $11,710.61, leaving a balance on hand of $23,376.07. For the week ending 29 Jan. 1803, the secretary drew eight warrants totaling $14,130.46, leaving a balance on hand of $9,245.61. For the week ending 5 Feb. 1803, the secretary received a deposit of $10,000 and drew six warrants totaling $12,917.38, leaving a balance on hand of $6,328.23. For the week ending 12 Feb. 1803, the secretary drew eight warrants totaling $4,375.66, leaving a balance on hand of $1,952.57. For the week ending 19 Feb. 1803, the secretary drew three warrants totaling $195.10, leaving a balance on hand of $1,758.47 (all in DNA: RG 59, Records of the Bureau of Rolls and Library; all in a clerk’s hand; all signed by Smith except abstract for week ending 29 Jan. 1803; abstract for week ending 5 Feb. 1803 addressed: “The President”; all endorsed by TJ).
