Paris 29 October 1793.

My friend Colo. Hamilton will thank me for procuring him the acquaintance of Mr. DeVolney1 the Gentleman who will deliver this Letter. A Splendid reputation in the literary world will command his ready admittance to all good Company his agreable qualities will render him a desireable guest and a valuable acquaintance.

1Constantin François Chasse-Boeuf, Comte de Volney, a French writer and politician, had been a member of the Estates-General and the Constituent Assembly and was well known for several works on travel and politics. He was suspected of being a Royalist and had been imprisoned in 1792. Despite the statement in Morris’s letter to H, Volney did not reach the United States until 1795.
