From James Madison to Richard Cutts, 1 November 1826

To Richard Cutts

Montpr. Novr. 1. 1826

Dear Sir

I have recd. from Mr. Van Zandt a copy of his Bill in Chancery:1 of course known to you, and have answered the communicati⟨on⟩ by a letter a copy of which I have thought it proper to inclose you.2 The errors of fact which it corrects make me hope that I shall be rescued by the explanation from the disagreeable situation in which the Bill places me. With friendly wishes

James Madison

RC (MHi); draft (DLC).

1In the draft, the rest of this sentence reads: “filed agst. & of course know[n] to you.”

2JM to Nicholas B. Van Zandt, 31 Oct. 1826.
