Where, on what service & under what commission is Genl. Swartwout to be employed? If out of service as the last army Register imports, he cannot be employed without a new appointment.1

The number of men enlisted into the Rifle Corps, & not yet furnished with rifles.

1. The Army Register for 1814 ( 33019) did not list Quartermaster General Robert Swartwout, who had submitted his resignation in April 1814. Armstrong, however, did not accept it; Swartwout served through the end of the war and was retained in the peace establishment (Risch, Quartermaster Support, 153–54; Army Register. Adjutant and Inspector General’s Office, January 1st, 1816 [Washington, D.C., 1816; 39181], 3).
